Paintings in this collection were in our show "Reflections on a Place," held at the Columbia Center for the Arts, in Hood River, Oregon. The focus was on capturing the people and the land in rural Oregon. (For more about this project go to http://vickishuckartwork.blogspot.com/p/sense-of-place-painterly-perspective-of.html this blog by my partner in this work, Vicki Shuck, gives a more complete background on what has become an ongoing project to capture in fine art the remote (and not so remote) farms and ranches of Central and Eastern Oregon. We have found that after one show it is only the beginning. We have much more to say, as there is much more to be heard from the people on these ranches and farms. Our next show will be in August at Tumalo Art Co., in Bend, Oregon.

About a year ago when we were traveling through the South West, I became absorbed in trying to find old motels...especially abandoned ones. They just seemed so poignant to me. Once upon a time they were destinations...now they are remnants. So I started a series. Then I got sidetracked by other shows and commitments...but have once again gone into my photo reference for a fresh start. I find I am still attracted by these ghosts. (As this project has progressed, I find I am adding some "distinguished" trailers, too.)
