Tranquil

This painting of the Columbia Gorge in the autumn is my idea of a tranquil spot.
Looking forward to more of these days as spring slips into summer and I am outside more to paint.

The High Desert in the Spring

After a long, gray, cold winter spring has finally arrived. Vicki Shuck and I were heading to Hood River, but the landscape on HWY 97 north and east of Madras was too tempting...what could be a 2+ hour drive turned into a 3+ hour drive. This scene is from one of the roads we took. It is great traveling with another painter...you never feel guilty when stopping and taking side roads to capture the perfect scene.

My Version of Heaven

This is one of the two commercial buildings in Diamond, Oregon. Obviously it is not currently in use, except for the stray pigeon. Diamond, in the Diamond Valley in south eastern Oregon is probably one of the most beautiful locations in this very beautiful state. I love going there to paint.
Vicki Shuck and I are scheduled in the Hotel Diamond later this month...hope we are around for branding. This is a focal area for our series on farms and ranches in Oregon. We will show our work at Tumalo Art Co. in August.

In Tribute to Edgar Payne II

Wow...the show at the Crocker Mus. in Sacramento, a retrospective of the works of Edgar Payne was wonderful...worth the day driving there and the day driving home. (Plus I got to see a very good friend.) What an amazing painter he was. The Crocker has a nice collection of other works by his contemporaries as part of their permanent exhibit. A very worthwhile trip. Of course the work inspired me.

My fun diversion

Another of the dog paintings for a show to be held in Sisters, Oregon. When I am trying to work on a larger or more complex painting, these really are a great diversion...sort of clears my mind.
